Istanbul

Well we finally make it to our last destination after a LONG 34 hours traveling by bus and train. Our train broke down twice which made the trip even longer then expected. Also when we arrived at 1am the hostel had lost our reservation and was fully booked, so we had no where to stay! They send us down the street, which we were upset about b.c after 34 hours of no sleep we were tired and just hoping for a place to sleep. turns out the hotel down the street was very nice and the same price as the hostel so it was okay. we sorted outu the hostel the next day aswell so we are back in the original palce now.
Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, we thought Hungry was hot! We were wrong! It is a nice 56degrees here with it cooling down to breezy 43 degrees at night! I never thought i would be able to sweat so much by just sitting in one spot!
we went into the blue mosque this afternoon which was amazing, and then later we met a man on the street who was really nice and took us in to a mosque during prayers and explained everything that was happening. we thought he was just being nice, but turnes out later he showed us to his carpet/rug store and wanted us to buy one! Awkward situation times 100.
kirk bardered down a 150 lira Burbery scarf for me to 20 lira! then later the next day he bartered down a 175 lira Rolex watch to 40. i i have quite the barterer with me!
Kirk bought a huge hooka (turkish water pipe) and we also bought lots of tea here!
We also have decided that Istanbul is by far one of the nicest cities we've been been, and VERY clean compaired to waht we thought it would be like. The only thing we cant understand are the turkish toilettes! WHY!!!!!!!!! (for those of you who do not know what the toilettes here are.... they are holes in the ground with places for your feet on either side!) Again WHY! luckily our hostel has REAL toilettes so as much as possible i hold everything in until we get back that day!
see you all in 2 days!

Corfu

Well we are having a blast in Corfu!
It has been very relaxing here compaired to the rest of our trip. The hostel is amazing, breakfast and dinner are included and you just have to walk down the steps from their deck and you are on the beach! The deck over looks the water, so we have an amazing view!
Yesterday we rented an ATV and cruised around the island checking out the other beaches and little towns.
We have made tones of friends here from all over the world and we are going to keep in touch with through e-mails etc.
Tomorrow we are heading off to our last destination before home.... Istanbul. We have had some problems figuring out how to get there, but we think we have it sorted out now. Thanks mom and dad for trying to help us out!
Anyways, we will report back later and see you in 6 days!

Athens

Hey Everyone.
Well we have enjoyed out stay in Athens. We did all the site-seeing stuff yesterday and then met a really nice couple from australia and went out for dinner and drinks with them last night.
The only thing that I am disapointed with is there is no humus here! At home humus is on every greek menu, but i guess that is just a north american add-on. We've eaten lamb everynight and it is delicious!
We are off to the Turkish Embassy today while we are waiting for our ferry that leaves tonight at midnight heading for Corfu. It is about a 8 hour ride, so we will be arriving in the morning.
We are REALLY looking forward to this next week of just relaxing! All of this backpacking has tired us out, so we are looking forward to this vacation at the end of our trip hehe.
Will report back from Corfu... hope everyone is doing well!

Pompei & Trip To Athens

Well Kirk now has a funky white passport. The temporary passports supposidly come in white, so everyone we give it to now asks why on earth it is white. Everything worked out though so it is all good. I guess your referece was okay mom, becuase they did not ask for any others.
Because the passport went well and we got in time, we made it to Pompei. It was one of our favourite towns. It was sooo much more quiet and small town like then all the other places we have stayed recently, it was beautiful. We have decided that if we go on a trip like this again we are definatly staying in the small towns just outside the big cities and training into them. It is just so much more relaxing. We went and saw the ruins....which were facinating!!!! there are actual frozen bodies preserved that were trapped in the erruption. It was very sad to see. They were in suffering positions, one was even on his hands and knees with her hands in a praying position. We will show pics when we get home. That afternoon we hiked mt.vesuvus. There was a bus that took us asbout 3/4 of the way up, and then for 2 km we had to hike. the bus ride up there was intense. because the road was so windy, the driver had to honk his horn every 10 seconds to make sure that no other cars were comming around the corners the other way or we would have had a head on because the roads were so skinny. The hike up wasnt too bad, it was actually quite nice because we were up so high it was cold...! Good change from the weather we have been having. The crater at the top was amazing! You could even see the smoke comming out of it! Kinda scared me!
It was weird. we actually hooked up with a girl in Pompei for the whole day that we met the first morning we were there. She started chatting to us and we realized she was also from canada. We hung out the whole time we were there, she was a little nuts but awesome! Turns out acutally that her father also works for ledcor!!! I bet you dont believe it dad. He is a project manager in California!!! Small World.
Anyways, we had to wake up at 6am the last morning in Pompei and catch a 3 different trains to the port in Bari where we caught the ferry over to Patras Greece. Note to any of you planning on traveling by ferry to Greece, the economy seats which be bought for 150 euro's mean that you basically sleep whereever you can find. We luckly found some recliners on the outside deck which we set our sleeping bags up on. Others were spralled all over the floor and stars inside and outside! It was nuts. Needless to say i did not get much sleep.
We have arrived in Athens in one peace though and am happy to be out of italy.
will report back soon.
we leave for corfu on the 14th

Rome

Well Rome has been interesting to say the least.
The Colliseum and Patheon were beautiful! We did not go into the colliseum though b.c the lineup was 2 hours long. It was still gorgeous from the outside though! The ruins were incredible aswell. We walked to the Vatican City, which is not far from our hostel, but the lineup was redicliously long. We saw St.Peters though and it was amazing.
Other then doing that. Yesterday we spent the day trying to get kirk a new passport! They kept his old passport in order to make the new one, so he doesnt even have one at the moment which is a weird feeling. We are hoping it is going to be ready by tomorrow, because we are suppose to be heading to Pompei for two nights before catching the ferry to Greece.
Today we are planning on heading to a local beach nearby.... but the guy at the front dest of the hostel told kirk when he was asking how to get there to leave me at the hostel... whatever that means... maybe there are a bunch of good-looking girls at the beach or something who knows hehe.
Anyways, we will report back when kirk gets his passport so you all know we are not stranded here in Italy.

Florence

We have had a good time in Florence so far. We are staying outside of the city about 10 minutes by bus, and the hostel had been made out of an old huge villa. It is a beautiful location. Yesterday we just lay a blanket out in the garden all afternoon and had a bottle of wine. It was very relaxing.
Just outside of the city centre there is a huge outdoor market, which we have come to everyday! They sell everything from clothes, to knockoff designer bags and sunglasses, jewlery etc. I have not had a problem spending money there :S
Kirk has officially turned into a european. First of all with his euro-style baithing suit he bought, and now he has gotten a man-purse! hehe. Hes rocking it all!
This afternoon we are heading out of the city to where all the wine vinards are and taking a 2 hour horse ride through them! It sounds pretty cool.
This is a quote that kirk wanted me to publish on here that i said the other night while we were having dinner.... well i knew pasta in italy was good, but i never could have imagined this! ...... Honestly i have never had such good pasta in my life. Nothing is over cooked, the sauces are to die for and the service is superb! Delicious. I definatly need to go on a diet when i get home hehe!
Anyways, we are off to Rome in 2 days, so i will report back from there!
miss everyone lots, and YES.... we forgot to put our families on the we miss list... but Obvioulsy that was just a given!
love you, dani and kirk

Hey Everyone.
1st of all.... cara you are a goof!
Thanks to everyone who comments on our posts.... we love reading your comments!!!!
2 days ago we went to Verona and saw Juliettes balcony, tumb and also romeos house!
Yesterday we did errands, and funny story.... kinda not really.... we were doing laundry... and kirk for some reason forgot to check his pockets, and his passport when through the laundry machine and drier. :S Good thing we are heading to Rome in 4 days where there is a canadian embassy/passport office where we can go check to make sure it is okay before heading to another country.
